CRS hosting ‘#SocialMedia4Girls’ discussion

On January 18, Michelle Cove, founder and executive director of MEDIAGIRLS, will lead the parent workshop “#SocialMedia4Girls: Helping girls use social media in healthy and positive ways” at Charles River School in Dover. The event is free of charge and open to the general public.

Where should parents and educators start when talking to girls about social-media expectations and guidelines? Today's parents didn't grow up with Snapchat and Instagram, and it can be overwhelming to stay informed on the latest apps, and monitor what girls are exposed to and experience. Social media is not going away, and researchers agree that social media use by teen girls is currently "fueling a mental health crisis.” In this workshop, Michelle will share a new road map with concrete strategies to help parents and educators understand kids' use of social media, and guide girls in making social media fun, healthy, and empowering.

Michelle is an award-winning filmmaker, author, and journalist whose projects have been featured on numerous talk shows and in national publications including The Washington Post, Psychology Today, and Parenting. She has authored and co-authored a number of books, previously served as senior editor of the national magazine Girls' Life, and blogs regularly for Huffington Post Parents and the Girls Leadership Institute. She is also the director and producer of two documentaries. Michelle lectures and leads workshops around the U.S., and has spoken at institutions including Harvard University, Stanford University, and Boston College.

This event will take place January 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Charles River School in Dover. Registration is required; visit www.charlesriverschool.org to register.
