Dover Foundation to present ‘Rumors’

Rehearsals have started for the Dover Foundation’s Spring Production, "Rumors," a hilarious farce by Neil Simon.

This comedy is set in the late 80s. Guests arrive to celebrate their hosts 10th wedding anniversary.... but something is wrong, Charley, their host has “accidentally” shot himself in the ear and is unconscious, so can’t tell them what happened, and their hostess, Myra, is missing. Charley is Deputy Mayor of New York City, so their guests, hoping to avoid a scandal, start an elaborate cover-up. The evening develops as more guests arrive, and with them more confusion and misunderstandings. In the end all the guests are complicit in a cover up that no one really understands.

The fantastical events of the evening are hilarious and give a rich basis for great characters doing what Neil Simon does best: making the mundane, insane.

The cast includes local talent: Jane Taylor (Chris Gorman), Paul Marsh (Ken Gorman), Mary Braunstein (Claire Ganz), Jim Braunstein (Lenny Ganz), Laura Villalobos (Cookie Cusack), Jim Nail (Ernie Cusack), Amy Baskin (Cassie Cooper), Glen Williamson (Glen Cooper), Russell Kane (Officer Ben Welch), and Susan Barrett (Officer Pudney).

Astute observers may recognize some of the cast from previous Dover Foundation productions; Last year, Jim Braunstein (Sky), Jim Nail (Nathan), Susan Barrett, Paul Marsh and Glen Williamson all appeared in The Dover Foundation’s production of "Guys and Dolls," and Jane Taylor previously starred in their production of "Barefoot in the Park" (2013). The Dover Foundation are also very happy to welcome newcomers Amy Baskin, Laura Villalobos, Russell Kane and Mary Sheridan.

Bruce von Rosenvinge returns to The Dover Foundation as director, following successes with "Oliver" (2014) and "Pirates of Penzance" (2016). Also making up the production team are Producer Ruth Townsend and Stage Manager Lisa Kane.

Performances will be at Kraft Hall on May 3-5 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

Tickets will be on sale from April 2, available from www.thedoverfoundation.com or Dover Automotive.
