DSHS Jazz Band performs at Berklee

On Saturday, February 10, the Dover Sherborn High School Jazz Band performed at the 50th Annual Berklee High School Jazz Festival under the direction of Band Director Janice Barry. The event featured over 200 high school big bands, combos, and vocal jazz ensembles from around the country.

Junior Will Easley was awarded the Judge's Choice Trophy by the panel of Berklee College judges for his contributions to the DSHS Jazz Band's performance at the Festival.

Ensembles are adjudicated by Berklee faculty and receive verbal and written feedback on their performance. Participants can perform in open jam sessions, tour the Berklee campus, and listen to performances by Berklee ensembles and faculty during the festival.

The DSHS Jazz Band performed three songs: Duke Ellington's "Mood Indigo," Erroll Garner's "Misty," and Jaco Pastorius' "Liberty City." The arrangement of "Misty" was composed by student Will Easley ('19). The set featured several soloists including Eugene Kwong ('19) on clarinet, alto saxophone, and soprano saxophone, Sam Gray ('18) on tenor saxophone, Brett Melican ('18) on trumpet, Will Easley ('19) on electric bass, and Katie Rupinski ('19) as the vocal soloist for "Misty." In each ensemble, one student is awarded the Judge's Choice Trophy for their contributions; Will Easley ('19) was the recipient of this award.
