Lifetime Learning to feature ukulele class

The Dover Lifetime Learning Program, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Dover Council on Aging, is offering a fun music class again this September, as Daniel Metraux is set to teach basic ukulele in two eight-week sessions at the Caryl Community Center.

Playing music keeps brains active, improves coordination, and lifts the mood. Many have fond memories of campfire sing-alongs, strumming along with Pete Seeger, John Denver, Peter, Paul and Mary, Elvis, the Beatles, and Johnny Cash. Why not learn these good old favorites?

Daniel Metraux will teach basic chords and strumming on the ukulele, a small guitar-like instrument that has become very popular in recent years. Because of its small size, the ukulele is easy to carry and with only four strings, it is easy to learn to play. Daniel will teach both traditional folk songs and more modern songs. New students are welcome.

Attendees may bring their own ukuleles or rent one at the Needham Music Store (781-453-8067) with an option to buy later.

There will be two eight-week sessions: September 6-October 25, November 1-December 20. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Caryl Community Center, 4 Springdale Avenue, Room 108, Dover. The cost for each eight-week session is $40.
