Peak House hosting hewing demonstration

Members of the community can check out the process of converting a log from its rounded, natural form into lumber using primarily an axe this coming Sunday, August 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 345 Main Street. Admission is free.

Attendees will be guided by Duane Houghton, a preservation/restoration carpenter, while he uses his antique tools in the forgotten art of hewing. He’ll be demonstrating this technique throughout the afternoon hours.

The mission of the Peak House Heritage Center is to engage, inform, inspire visitors as they learn about this historic house, the events that occurred here, and the diverse residents who shaped its legacy.

More information about the Heritage Center is available at www.peakhouseheritagecenter.org.
