Needham celebrates Independence Day

As it does every year, Needham celebrated July 4 with a bang, bringing people both from in and outside of town to enjoy the fun and fireworks. The celebrations represent some of the oldest July 4 festivities in the country.

Sponsored by the Needham Exchange Club, the party began on Saturday evening with music, food vendors, and children’s entertainment, all of which culminated in a spectacular fireworks display crowning over Memorial Park and Needham High School. The beautiful weather, in addition to the spirited crowd, made for a scintillating evening.

The festivities continued on a more explicitly patriotic note the next morning, as following the annual 5K road race and children’s parade, Old Glory was raised and saluted over Needham’s town common. A grand parade followed, sending music, floats, town dignitaries, and community groups rolling from Greene’s Field down Great Plain Ave, May Street, Webster Street, and Highland Ave before concluding at Memorial Park.
