In 2017, few athletes were more dominant on the track than Medfield native and Thayer Academy sophomore Owen Drometer, who took home the ISL and New England crowns in both the 800 (1:57.13) and 1500 (4:03.46) meter races and was awarded the honors of ISL MVP.

Drometer finished the 2017 season undefeated in both the 1500 and 800 events, a feat that no other runner in the history of Thayer Academy athletics had ever been able to accomplish, earning himself a place on the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team.

Now a rising junior, Drometer helped anchor the ISL champion 4x400 relay team for Thayer, who finished at 3:36.5. Drometer served as the final leg of the foursome, and ran his portion of the race in 51.1 seconds to capture the title for Thayer.

A dual-sport star in both soccer and track, the 5’10,” 135 lb. Drometer was also named All-ISL as well as All-New England in track and field as a freshman in 2016.

Off the track and soccer field, Drometer is a two-time recipient of Thayer’s honor roll and enjoys hobbies such as skiing, tennis, and fishing in his down time.
