Girls varsity hockey holds youth clinic

On Saturday, Jan 13, the Medfield High School girls varsity hockey team held a clinic at the Blackstone Arena in Hopedale for all Medfield youth girl hockey players. Over 22 girls attended and had a great time skating with the varsity team. The high school team, led by first-year head coach Sarah Small, ran the girls through a variety of drills and fun games, and gave out prizes in a small reception held afterwards.

“I was very happy with the turnout and enthusiasm,” said coach Small. “It is so important to give back to the youth teams if you want to build a strong high school program. I told my girls, ‘These younger kids look up to you as role models and hope to one day be in your shoes so the more enthusiasm you bring, the more they will get excited and want to continue to play ice hockey.’ I am hoping to make this the first of many clinics we do with the youth programs.”

The Medfield town girls hockey program continues to grow each year and is proving to be a strong feeder system for an already strong high school team. For any girls ages 5-11 interested in trying hockey, there will be an open on-ice session on Friday, January 26, from 5 to 6 p.m., at Norfolk Arena (1 Dean Street, Norfolk) with the current U10 team and U8 girls.
