Youth track stars at Needham Classic

Over 450 young track and field athletes from as far away as Jamaica and Toronto met over the weekend of July 22-23 to compete in the 27th annual Needham Youth Classic. Sponsored by the Needham Youth Track Club, this meet is the largest open youth track meet in the Northeast and featured 12 running and 9 field events for age 2-14. As part of an NYTC tradition, all children walked away with an award – ribbon, medal, or trophy. Top finishers shared in the 200 trophies and 1200 medals that were distributed.

8-year-old Kiylah Williams of the Central Connecticut Jaguars led the way with 9 wins and 4 meet records.

Superior marks which set meet records included an 11’9” long jump and 14.35 100 meter by Kiylah Williams, a 27.01 200 meter by 10-year-old James Wreh, a 1:01.43 400 meter by 11-year-old Kylee Bernard, and a 3:45.98 800 meter race walk by 14-year-old Alessia Caira.

(age 9-10) Dean Silverman, 80 Meter Hurdles, 14.07

(age 11-12) Marcus Kushner, Standing Long Jump, 7’0.5”

(age 13-14) Emma Forde: 1500 Meter Run, 5:15.00
