For the first time in school history, the Walpole High varsity girls cross-country team won the MIAA Division III Eastern Mass State Championship with a victory in November 13’s All-State race in Wrentham.

After finishing second in the Bay State Conference Championship meet on October 29, Connor Cashman’s team was determined to build off of their momentum heading into the Division III Championship.

Junior Danielle Borelli (19:51.82), who beat her personal best on the 5K course by approximately 32 seconds, was the first Rebel to cross the finish line on November 13 to place fifth overall while sophomore Camille LoGiudice (19:52.25) and senior Stephanie Forester (19:54.3) were right behind Borelli at sixth and seventh.

The Rebels were able to edge out second-placed Hopkinton (49-105) thanks to the efforts of not only their top-three finishers of Borelli, LoGiudice and Forester, but also due to the stellar performances by sophomore Caroline McGrath (20:22.08), who placed 15, and junior Lindsey Sullivan (20:23.88), who placed 16.

Senior Mikaela McSharry (21:00.06) and junior Lindsey Ganshirt (21:11.1) also ran well for the Rebels with McSharry placing 45 and Ganshirt 53.

Following their Division III title, the Rebels finished sixth in the Division I All-State Championship meet on Saturday to cap off an extremely successful season. Congrats to the lady-Rebels on a spectacular year and amazing run to the Division III title.
