In keeping with its mission to share and teach the pottery experience to the public, 17 members of Potters Place will hold a fundraiser to benefit the The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation of Bourne, MA, during the weekend of May 4-6. Proceeds from the sale of select, hand-made pottery at the cooperative’s Annual Spring Show & Sale will fund programs that support patients who suffer from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

The Show & Sale will take place at Potters Place, 127B Old West Street on: Friday, May 4, from 6–9 p.m.; Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening gala on Friday evening features a special "meet the artists" reception with refreshments. Bowls, platters, vases, mugs, planters, sculptures, and hanging decorations will be among the hundreds of unique, hand-made pottery created by the member potters of the studio and school. A special display of pieces created exclusively for the The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation fundraiser will highlight the show.

This year’s show is being chaired by Potters Place member Lana MacDonald of East Walpole and co-chaired by Lizanne Donegan of Foxboro, and will feature the theme of “Special Occasions." The theme was developed by MacDonald, who was inspired by the many events that traditionally take place in the spring. “Springtime offers a new awakening, especially after this uncommonly long winter,” said MacDonald. “This season offers so many opportunities for people to gather … from Mother’s Day, to bridal showers, graduations and weddings. The beautiful, one-of-a-kind pottery pieces created by our co-op’s members make perfect gifts and centerpieces for family events,” she said.

MacDonald chose the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation because she and her family have benefitted from the programs and support offered by the group. “A diagnosis of ALS is one of the worst things that can happen to a person, ”she said. “They lose their health, independence and financial security. And as we know all too well, when one family member is diagnosed with ALS, they all live it.” continued MacDonald.

“We are so grateful to Potters Place for holding a fundraiser for our benefit,” said Deborah Bell, Patient Services Coordinator of The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation. “Our in-house programs are open to New England area families and are designed to alleviate some of the financial and emotional burdens of living with ALS. All the money raised will go directly to our families - to help with everyday bills, heating oil, and the many other financial needs they incur. Our special funds including respite care, children’s programs, and patient vacation funds will also be benefitted from this fundraiser. We cannot do all that we do without committed organizations like Potters Place that hold fundraisers for our families,” said Bell.

Potters Place is a cooperative, not-for-profit pottery studio that has been in existence for almost 40 years. The 23 cooperative members continue a mission of sharing the pottery experience with neighboring communities through classes, workshops and special projects for adults and children. The studio’s instructors offer a variety of hand-building and wheel-throwing programs for children, teens and adults of all levels. One-time workshops, as well as six and eight week class sessions are offered throughout the year. Birthday and Scout badge parties are also offered.

For directions and more information, call (508-668-0363) or visit www.PottersPlace.Info. Free admission and parking are available, and the studio is wheelchair accessible. Credit cards are accepted.
