On Saturday, November 18, United Church in Walpole will be holding its 36th annual Holly Berry Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Fair is a family-friendly event with three rooms of activities specifically geared toward children. First is the Treasure Trove Room, where a child buys a ticket and wins a prize. Every ticket is a winner. Next is the Make and Take Room, where children of all ages work on simple holiday-themed craft projects that they take home as a gift or decoration for the holidays. Finally, the Children’s Shopping Room offers younger children a guided shopping trip to buy $1 items as Christmas gifts for family, friends, teachers, or coaches. Items are gift wrapped for the kids so they are ready to be given during the holiday season. Adults are asked to wait for their children outside the room to avoid spoiling the surprise.

This year, the ever-popular giant silent auction has over 550 items, including gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses, jewelry, one-of-a kind pieces of artwork, holiday decor and household items, sports and fitness items, passes to museums and attractions, children’s toys and games, gift baskets, and more.

The Fair will also feature the Bake Shoppe, with homemade breads, pies, cookies, and cakes; the Holiday Emporium, with seasonal decorations and ornaments, including the famous birds with the Screech Owl as bird of the year; and Handmades, with scarves, sweaters, quilts and other items handcrafted by members and friends of the church.

A popular feature every year is the very affordable hot lunch served during the Fair. The varied menu has something for everyone: corn chowder, hot turkey roll-ups and apple crisp all made from scratch in United Church’s own kitchen, plus pizza, Greek salads, and hot and cold beverages.

All profits from the fair support an array of church programs and outreach needs in the community and beyond.

United Church in Walpole is located at 30 Common Street, next to the Post Office. There is plenty of parking in the church parking lots, with overflow parking available at the neighboring funeral homes.
