The RB Foundation, a local non-profit organization that helps families in need, is proud to lend its support to Liam McGourty, an 8-year-old boy who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

DMD as its known is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Until recently, boys with DMD usually did not survive beyond their teen years. Thanks to medical advances in cardiac
and respiratory care people with DMD are living much longer.

Liam now has trouble walking and going up stairs. Although eventually he will be restricted to a wheel chair, Liam is an active, happy 8-year-old who loves being a part of the Northeastern baseball team and enjoys playing with
Legos.

He is currently going back and forth to Philadelphia for treatment for this disease. He also has physical therapy several times per week.

Liam lives in Norwood with his parents Kristen and Jeff, and little sister Abigail. The RB Foundation hopes that its donation will help with Liam’s costly medical bills and travel expenses to Philadelphia.

The RB Foundation also looks forward to him taking free ice skating lessons at the Rodman Arena in Walpole.
