Blake Lothian sweeps second racing championship

Wellesley High School student Blake Lothian racked up his second karting championship this year. Blake won the 2017 Outdoor New Hampshire Karting Association Series Championship in the LO 206 Senior high-performance karting series. Blake raced his kart in the series May through October at both New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Canaan Motor Speedway.

Blake wrapped up the season with most points (880) of any racer. In fact, half way through the series, after Blake had raced five races undefeated, NHKA race director Mike Camarra announced a $50 bounty on Blake’s head to the first driver who could break Blake’s five-race winning streak. In the end, Blake’s streak was only broken by Mike himself, but it made for some great racing drama and excitement on the race track as the drivers battled it out week after week. Blake ended the season with seven first place wins and three second place wins to nab the championship. That’s quite a record for a teen who was racing on an age waiver in a mostly adult league. Earlier this year Blake won the Indoor Championship at F1 Boston.

Next season, Blake plans on moving up to an even faster, more powerful World Formula kart that can reach speeds of over 70 miles per hour. Blake will once again be racing in the NHKA series and he also hopes to be competing in some national races as he continues his quest toward the professional racing circuit.

Blake finances his karting endeavors with help from his local Wellesley business sponsors and by working both at the race track and jobs in the community. Blake has recently opened a GoFundMe page under Lothian Blake to help him finance his ability to compete in his first national race, The Ignite Dash Race, in Daytona later this year.
