‘Lion King, Kids’ arrives in Wellesley

Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP) is presenting Disney’s "Lion King, Kids," a musical for all ages. Performances will take place Friday, July 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. All performances will be held at the Katherine L. Babson Auditorium at Wellesley High School on 50 Rice Street. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime.

Tickets purchased in advance are priced $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, and may be purchased online at www.wellesleytheatreproject.org or by calling (781-235-1550). Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Group discounts and gift certificates are available. Adapted from the 1994 film, Disney’s "Lion King, Kids" comes to the WTP stage showcasing everyone’s favorite Disney songs, like “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.” In this famous Disney tale, a young Simba prepares himself to become king one day, but Scar has other plans. A talented cast and crew of 48 summer production camp students between the ages of seven and fifteen bring the ensemble of animals to life. Cast members of Disney's "Lion King, Kids" reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including Weston, Newton, Waban, Auburndale, Needham, Milton, Wayland, Westwood, Natick, Franklin, Sherborn, and Waltham.

Disney's "Lion King, Kids" production staff includes: Benjamin Rush (director and set designer), Hannah Shihdanian (choreographer), Eric Anderson (musical director), Megan Pillsbury (costume designer), Alexa Lambert (stage manager), and Seif Cristobal (lighting designer). The music and lyrics are by Tim Rice and Elton John. Additional music and lyrics by Will Van Dyke, Lebo M., Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Hans Zimmer. Book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi.

Wellesley Theatre Project is an arts academy and a Wellesley nonprofit devoted to providing students (Pre-K through 12th Grade) with the opportunity to study and experience theatre and performing arts through year-round classes, staged productions, workshops and summer camps.

Registration is open for WTP’s 2016 Summer Camps. The remaining camps include production camps geared for students between 2nd and 12th grade, in addition to one-week theatre arts camps for pre-K through 12th grade. The production camps are "Peter Pan" (Grades 2-12) and "Chicago" (Grades 8-12).
