Margaret McWethy giving oil painting workshop

A winner of numerous awards and a featured artist in several books, impressionist painter Margaret McWethy will conduct a landscape oil painting workshop on Saturday, March 24, at the Warren Building in Wellesley. The workshop is for artists who have previously used oils and want to strengthen their ability to construct the foundation for a good painting. By sharing her methods of simplifying the landscape’s complexity, McWethy will take some of the mystery out of landscape painting.

After receiving a degree in art history and biology from Swarthmore College, McWethy studied with Henry Hensche at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown and sought teachers who based their art on training and careful observation. Currently, she teaches summer workshops at the Cape School of Art and ongoing classes at the North River Arts Society in Marshfield Hills.

McWethy’s work hangs in private and public collections in the United States, Europe and Canada. Books in which she is featured include Lois Griffel’s "Painting the Impressionist Landscape," Susan Sarbeck’s "Capturing Radiant Color in Oils," and Lee Boynton’s "Painting the Impressionist Watercolor." McWethy has sold over 1,000 paintings and is a charter member of the New England Plein Air Painters.

For additional information about the artist and the workshop, visit margaretmcwethy.com and wellesleysocietyofartists.org. The workshop will run from 9:30 – 4:00 and is limited to 12 participants. The cost is $125. To register, call the Wellesley Recreation Department at (781-235-2370). Class ID is 141477.
