Noah Stone and Andy Du, both Westwood High School students, will compete in January as Eastern Division finalists, with Noah competing in the Senior Woodwind competition and Andy competing in the Junior Woodwind competition.
Noah and Andy both advanced to the Eastern Division after the State competitions on November 8. Noah, a sophomore, and Andy, a freshman, both study clarinet with Mrs. Melissa (Grieco) Laurencio through the Prodigy Program at Westwood High School, and are active in the WHS wind ensemble and concert band. Both young men also participate in the New England Conservatory’s preparatory school as part of the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, with Andy performing in the Concert Band, and Noah performing in the Senior Band. Noah is also a member of the Boston Youth Symphony at BU.

These young musicians were also selected to perform in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Eastern District Honors Festival, with Andy performing principal clarinet in the Junior Concert Band and Noah principal clarinet in the Senior Concert Band in 2016, and both musicians have been selected to perform in the Senior Eastern District Honors Festival for 2017, with Andy performing clarinet in the Concert Band and Noah as principal on bass clarinet in the Orchestra. Noah was recently featured as concert master at the National level Concert Band at the NAfME Festival in Gaylord, Texas, scoring the second highest score on clarinet in the country.

The District Woodwind Competitions will take place on Sunday, January 8, during the MTNA Eastern Conference. The winner of this competition will compete in the National Finals during the MTNA National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland in March.

The three-tiered MTNA competitions begin at the state level. Winners of each State Competition advance to the Division Competition. Division winners then proceed to the National Competition Finals.
