Westwood’s Beaupre quilts for charity

Westwood resident Joanne Beaupre busily trims fabric squares to finish a quilt top at the recent Power of the Quilt Project quilt-a-thon, part of the Service and Justice Ministries of the Unitarian Universalist Area Church, First Parish in Sherborn. Beaupre is a member of the Rhododendron Needlers Quilt Guild, a joint project partner, who enjoys sewing and wanted to help create these one-of-a-kind handmade quilts and lap robes for men and women undergoing cancer treatments. Since 2003, the Power of the Quilt Project has distributed more than 2,100 colorful quilts to chemotherapy patients, bringing a small amount of joy into each recipient’s life.

The next quilt-a-thon is scheduled as a community service project to be held at the church on Monday, January 16, Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Quilters and volunteers of all abilities are welcome. For more information, contact Cris Crawford at cris@theworld.com.
